Details Emerge Why Imo Assembly Leader, Ogbuagu Was Impeached

1 min read

Members of Imo State House of Assembly have impeached the House Leader, Hon. Uche Ogbuagu.

Unofficial sources said he was impeached for “insubordination to constituted offices most especially to the office of the Speaker”

Another source claimed that a frosty relationship with the leadership of the House comprising the Speaker, Paul Emeziem and the Deputy Speaker, Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu, may have been part of cumulative factors, which led to the impeachment of Mr. Ogbuagu.

He was also alleged to be “entangled in a cold and vicious war” with the Deputy Speaker, Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, who has been accused of exercising “overbearing and dominant” powers in the House even more than the Speaker.

The Speaker, Hon Paul Emeziem who presided over plenary, Thursday said that the Majority Leader has been impeached.

The session took place under heavy security.

Ogbuagu is among some lawmakers who leapfrogged from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, into the All Progressive Congress, APC, when the Supreme Court removed Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP as Governor of Imo State, and replaced him with Senator Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

In Nigeria, State Governors exercise enormous stronghold on members of the State Assembly.
