The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Party ADP, Mr Omoyele Sowore has accused the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari of preparing Nigeria for a military takeover.
Sowore made the accusation on his verified Twitter handle, when he claimed that with the way things were going on in the country, it appeared that Buhari had no intentions of handing over to a democratically elected government when he steps down in 2023.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who took over from former President, Goodluck Jonathan, was formerly a military Head of State, having overthrown the democratically elected government of late former president Shehu Shagari on the 31st day of December 1983.
Buhari was later kicked out of office in another coup d’etat on the 27th day of August 1985, which saw former military president, General Ibrahim Badmusi Babangida taking over power.
The country have been going locked in severe insecurity troubles which have spread to almost every part of the country including the once peaceful South East and South West, which the economy of the country is in troubled waters with the naira on free fall against the dollar.
Terrorist groups have become more daring, attacking the nation’s capital and during one of those attacks, breached the Kuje Federal prison in Abuja, releasing many of their detained members.
There have also been the case of the Abuja to Kaduna train which the Buhari administration have failed to secure the passengers who were taken captive by the terrorists that attacked the train.
Recently, senators of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP have threatened Buhari with impeachment, if he cannot address the rising spate of insecurity in the country.
Sowore’s claims reads as follows:
“President Muhammadu Buhari @mbuhari is preparing Nigeria for a military coup d’état, everything he’s doing points to it! Let those who have ears, hear this!”
